Worth knowing

There are limits to seeing what other people see

Please read these before you rely on it. The app is built to help as much as it honestly can.

It cannot create colors that were never there: It takes the difference between two colors that blended together and carries it over into colors you can still tell apart. That means colors in the photo can end up looking different from the original.
Results differ from photo to photo and person to person: Measured on 15 natural photographs with the per-photo adaptive mode, of the color pairs that used to blend together, the share that stayed apart rose from 28–38% before correction to 52–68%. That is for the types weak at red and at green, and it shifts with the degree and with the photo. Pairs pushed further apart than they were in the original were not counted as a gain.
When only two of the three color cells are there: If one of the three types is missing altogether, no amount of light from a screen can bring back color information the eye never received. The app can still pull colors apart, but the overall tone of the photo changes noticeably.
The type weak at blue gains little so far: You can set the type and adjust the strength, but the current method does not make a visible difference for it. A separate design is in progress.

Unblend is not a medical device. The self-check in the app is a reference for finding correction settings that suit your eyes. It is not intended to diagnose or treat color vision deficiency. For an accurate examination, please see an eye doctor.

Privacy

Your photos never leave your device

Correction runs entirely on your iPhone, and photos and videos are never sent to a server. There is no account. To keep the app free it will show ads, and the ad service collects an advertising identifier.
